About Us
Hodsdon & Clifford was founded in 2000 by two experienced York County
lawyers, Steve Hodsdon and Peter Clifford. With over 50 years of combined legal experience,
our firm is responsive, pragmatic, and whenever possible, informal. Since our firm's founding,
we have relied on three highly experienced and dedicated legal assistants, with a combined 60
years of paralegal experience. We achieve our goals, including consistently high verdicts
and settlements, because everyone at our firm is committed to providing the best legal
representation possible.
Firm History
Steve has managed a very active and growing general practice in the area
since 1977, handling a variety of legal matters, including real estate, wills and trusts,
business and banking matters, criminal law and divorce. A significant portion of his practice
involves counseling developers, banks, businesses and individuals. He has served as general
counsel for area banks for many years. He is very active in the Kennebunk community.
Pete is a trial lawyer and, since 2001, has mediated more than a hundred cases for other
lawyers. He was elected President Elect of the Maine Trial Lawyers Association this past
April. He is a member of the Maine Supreme Court's Advisory Committee on Rules of Civil
Procedure, as well as the Fee Arbitration Commission. He has been a regular columnist for
Maine's "lawyer newspaper," the Maine Lawyers Review, for more than ten years. Since 2008,
he has been named by Super Lawyers Magazine as one of the top attorneys in Maine.
We pride ourselves on exceeding our clients' expectations, and it is common for our clients
to express their gratitude at the end of a case. Please see the Client Comment section in
this website for a sampling.
